Travel Tips, While preparing for West Africa Holiday Adventure, Here are few tips you must take note of before you go.

Some Things We Recommend You Bring.

Some Things we recommend while preparing for Ghana Vacation and Birding Tours, here are some important gadgets we recommend you come along with when planning all tours – specific destinations may need further recommendations.

 

  • Binoculars (the guides may not have a spare and cannot lend theirs).

  • A spotting scope and tripod or window mount (optional).

  • Field guides (We can arrange for Field Guide).

  • Any other birding equipment.

  • Photographic equipment (optional).

  • Spare batteries for photographic and other gears.

  • Flashlight/torch/headlamp with spare batteries.

  • Toiletries.

  • Personal medication (including anti-malaria drugs). We recommend packing important medication (and a change of clothes) in your hand luggage in the unlikely event of lost luggage.

  • Some countries including Ghana requires a valid “Yellow Fever Certificate” and we advise visiting a travel clinic or your family doctor and visiting the Center for Disease Control website, for health advice.

  • Rain gear.

  • Alarm clock.

  • Passport (Valid for 6 Months after the Trip), and visas.

  • Copies of passport, medical insurance policies and other important documents, that can be left with the Adventure Birding Tours office or at your home.

  • Money for alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages, gifts, tips, items of a personal nature, etc. Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted including for drawing local currency at ATM’s.

  • Hiking boots plus another pair of shoes and sandals.

  • Swimming gear (Optional).

  • Cap/hat and dark glasses (Optional).

  • Sunscreen (Avoid sun burning).

  • Mosquito repellent (Highly recommended).

  • Long-sleeved clothes as a precaution against biting insects.

Ghana & West Africa Visas.

Ghana has introduced e-visa portal to revolutionise Ghana’s visa processing regime by replacing manual procedures with a secured technology-driven online system designed to improve border security management, efficiency and transparency.

 

The launch was graced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica.

 

In his keynote address during the launch, President Mahama stated that the initiative was not about unveiling a digital platform but a reaffirmation of Ghana’s commitment to innovation, connectivity, good governance and to provide efficient public service.

 

In addition, he announced that from 25th May, 2026 which marks African Union Day, holders of African passports would not be required to pay visa fees when travelling to Ghana.

 

This decision by the Government of Ghana is aimed at promoting the continental integration agenda of the African Union as envisaged in one of the flagship programmes (The African Passport and Free Movement of People) of Agenda 2063 regarding free movement of all African citizens in all African countries.

 

The e-Visa platform presents Ghana with the opportunity not to only compete through natural resources but also through efficient systems that facilitate investment, tourism and global partnerships.

  • In the unlikely event when there is no Ghana High Commission or Embassy in your home country to enable you to obtain a visa, you can obtain a visa on arrival.
West Africa Weather.

Ghana and West Africa Weather, Ghana is crossed by the Greenwich Meridian at Tema.

Daytime temperatures average around 30°c. However, there is some variation seasonally and geographically.

Temperature in the mid-portion, to the south of the country ranges between 21°c – 32°c and 24 °c- 40°c in the north depending on time of the year.

The warmest months are February and March and the coolest are August to early September. Seasonal changes are different from those of North America and Europe, due to its proximity to the Equator.

Ghana’s temperature is reasonably consistent.

The rainy season is from May to October.

Most of the southern sector has two periods of rainfalls, a major one from mid-May to mid-July and a minor one from September to mid-October.

The northern sector has only one, from mid-May – August.

From December to mid-January, the Harmattan winds blow from the Sahara Desert, causing very dry and hazy conditions in the north.

This has little or no effect on visitors.

West African Countries has more or less similar weather condition, mostly Hot, Dry and Humid.
